I was wondering how many out there are taking Abilify combined with Concerta? Is it safe?
I'm thinking about adding 18mg Concerta to the 2.5mg of Abilify I'm currently taking. Doc doesn't have a problem with it, but was wanting some input from experiences with this combo.

Antipsychotic+stimulant combos are kind of odd, but they're becoming more popular as more people take atypical antipsychotics. Abilify is kind of unique as an antipsychotic, so using it with a stimulant is a little different from using a stimulant with, say, Geodon. From my experience, the combo has its ups and downs. On the upside, if you the doses of both meds are right, you can get some mood-stabilization with needed stimulation. If the doses are off, you can end up over-stimulated, under-stimulated (abilify can block some of the stimulant effects), or just feeling "odd". 2.5mgs/Abilify is a pretty low dose, as is 18mgs/concerta, so I would think any potential side effects would be *relatively* mild, but there's really no way to tell.

I have been taking 2.5mg of Abilify with varying doses of Concerta for almost 2 years now and find that they work very well together. I personally find that the 36mg Concerta dose is right for me, but you need to experiment to see which works for you. Concerta helps me to focus and also works with the Abilify to level me and has balanced my mood over time. I do not experience any negative side effects from the combination and I feel focused and in control.
