I would like to know if quetiapine is supposed to have the same mood stabilizing effect in bipolar II, than olanzapine (zyprexa)?

yup. seroquel is apparently pretty good stuff for bipolar...I think most of the info is from bipolar I, but I may be wrong. Recently, there's been a lot of hooplah about seroquel's antidepressant effects (both when used alone and when combined with an antidepressant). I wouldn't personally say seroquel's a great drug (some may disagree), but I think it is nice that **finally** there's research specifically on bipolar, with the aim of improving therapy and reducing the # of medications (perhaps to the point that monotherapy could one day be standard for bipolar).

I was on seroquel mono-therapy 600mg for 1.25 years for BP1. It seems to me that the standard mood stabilizers have lower long-term risks. My opinion is the way that atypicals work is a lot more invasive than the mood stabilizers. One of them is actually attaching stuff to your brain -- and we don't know the long-term effects for it yet... It scares me (and somewhat my doctor, although he cares more about stability). ...Which is why my goal is to get on as little antipsychotics as possible...
