AMISULPRIDE v/s SULPIRIDE: which are differences?

Posted by jgm on October 24, 2005, at 11:14:06

Hi to everybody,
I want to give a try to Amisulpride or Sulpiride for dysthymie and mood disorders.
I know they are both Antiphsycotics used even in depression at low dosage.
As i have read that they are quite similar i was asking which are the difference between these drugs: potency? difference in side effects? something else?
If you have any experience in the use of these two drugs, please let me know the differce you feel or share anything you consider inportant.
Thank you very much in advance for your help!

I took both drugs for psychosis. For me they were no different which is to say they didnt do much of anything, maybe helped my anxiety. No side effects or anything and I relapsed after a month or so of amisulpride.

Best regards, Bunny

I have not tried sulpiride, but I have tried amisulpride. It is my favorite of any med on the planet. It can lift me out of any kind of depression in 2 days, time after time. The longest I've ever taken it was about 8 weeks. The problem I run into is that it causes sexual side effects for me. So I use it when I need it, but not continuously. Excellent for motivation, activity, social comfort, though it can have a bit of revved up anxiety at start up. I usually start at 12.5mg, then up to 25mg, and the highest I've taken is 50mg. I like amisulpride a lot. I think my depressive symptoms are definitely in the dopamine system somewhere, and that's why it helps me so much. For other people who it doesn't help much, their symptoms are probably not as dopamine related as mine.

Amisulpride was a really good antidepressant for me. Like other meds you have to let it build up in your system though.

Start on a low dose of about 25-50mg. It works great, but didn't help my anxiety much though. For that I take the occasional 10mg of Valium - it's a saviour!!!!!

All the best.
