SSRIs effects on prefrontal cortex.

I read that prozac increases norepinephrine and dopamine extracellular levels in the prefrontal cortex. Does celexa, being an SSRI, do the same thing?

I was always under the impression that prozac just worked on serotonin. And it was the first drug called an SSRI. But of course I could be wrong. Fondly, Phillipa

You're correct about Prozac. Celexa, being a more selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor than Prozac, does not increase extracellular norepinephrine and dopamine levels in the prefrontal cortex.

Is it really any wonder why Prozac accomplished what none of the other SSRIs did? ;-) Furthermore, the subjects were rats, and the significance of the results is not known.

Not that studies involving other antidepressants are funded from sources outside of industry...
