Posted by chand2407 on October 22, 2005, at 19:59:27

i am taking elavil, klonopin, and seroquel for having having real bad thoughts about someone. i dont know which drug it is but when i go to sleep i have long, movie like dreams thats real vivid. i dont want to wake up being a manic and hurting someone. that will not happen will it. is that just a side effect. i dont like that side effect. any advice. do u think i should change the med. if it really becomes a problem i will. i have been on it for a week.

Have you discussed this with your pdoc? I think you should. Fondly, Phillipa

That is interesting because I am having vivid dreams, too, from the Seroquel. I sleep deep but I have vivid dreams, well mostly nightmares. It takes me a few minutes after waking up to realize that it was just a dream.

However, regardless of the dreams, it is well worth the reduction of anxiety for me. I am willing to accept the trade off. I think every med would have some sort of negative.

It depends. Seroquel made me crazy--crying, miserable, terrible dreams, muscle stiffness, drug-induced stupidity--at only 100mgs/daily. Hydroxyzine (atarax, vistaril) gave me this weird re-curring dream in which I was having an intense seizure (I've never actually had a seizure). I discontinued both meds...wasn't worth it. In addition..drugs don't really prevent violence, per se; they can sedate you and make you so sluggish and apathetic that you won't be capable of violence, but they don't do anything about the underlying issues...in that context, they basically function either as sedatives or chemical lobotomies. Good luck!

every medicine affects everyone differently. That sounds awful what Seroquel did to you ... no, I mean what you felt when you were on Seroquel. It is a miracle drug for many, including myself. Hopefully something else will provide relief.

Seroquel makes me sleep deep and lets me dream deeply and vividly - this is good in my case since I take it when I'm experiencing mixed or hypomanic states - luckily so far not nightmares (i got wicked nightmares on nortriptolyne years ago - wrong med!) But even a super small dose makes me wake up with a 'hangover' - way too drugged out still so I only take it when I really need it.

I am a firm believer that not all meds are right for everyone, so I definately suggest talking to your doctor.
