Maddy,
I can only tell you that a week after starting Lexapro 5mg, I called my doctor and told him I was more depressed and more anxious. He told me to reduce the dose. I reduced it to 2.5 and the anxiety got a little better but I was still quite anxious. When I saw him, we tried raising it to 7.5. No improvement. I gave up.

Hightened anxiety is a common side effect at the beginning of SSRI treatment, and the depression may be related to this too. But this doesnt mean its not going to work. Its just an unfortunate occurence with SSRIs. Give it 3 weeks before making any hasty decisions.
Also, if you're taking it in the morning then try changing it to night, right before going to bed. This may avoid any short term appathy experienced in the day.
Good luck.

From what I have experienced and seen in others over the years, any psychiatric med can cause depression or worsen existing depression. It is a minority of cases, but it does happen, and it is almost always listed in the side effects table.
I've been on lexapro for 3 weeks. I have noticed a pattern. I wake in the morning, feel fairly decent, take my dose, then a few hours later start getting blah, and then actually get depressed for an hour or two, and then I feel perfectly fine in the evening. It repeats every day. The only thing I can think of is that it is the lexapro.

I stopped lexapro 5mg two days ago. I couldn't stand waking up without any sleep with my legs twitching and mind thinking round and round. Anything that could happen. All negative. So I stopped the lexapro and went back to luvox. Last night was the first night that I got any decent sleep on only my l5mg of valium. Fondly, Phillipa

That is the natural course of depression for me--on or off meds. I sometimes wonder why I bother taking something to make me sleep because I feel my BEST when it is time to go to sleep again.

>Me too. I am living for the hour or two at night when I feel human. Except it's not worth it. I'm very depressed right now. The Luvox trial was awful worse than awful the worst I've felt in 20 years and I've only been back on Celexa for 5 days. Now I'm scared it won't work.

Marsha it's so wierd. That's when I start to wake-up. And I think I like to sleep cause nothing is expected of me. But lexapro caused the same feeling luvox did for you. So now I'm back on the luvox low dose 25mg. High high a dose where you on before you quit? Thanks Fondly,Phillipa

I was on 12.5 for three days and then 25mg for about a week. I know that's a very low dosage but I've never taken more than a half or quarter dose of any AD - I'm very sensitive to meds. (Effexor 37.5, Celexa 10mg, Prozac 20mg twice a week, etc.)
Hope the Luvox helps with your anxiety and depression, Phillipa. What dose are you starting on? Lexapro was not good for me, either. It made me more anxious and more depressed and I stuck with it for 3-4 weeks.

Marsha I've got an original RX namebrand of luvox. Had it for a few years so it's probably not very potent. I bite off a section as they're loomg pills. And I think it's about 25mg.Fondly, Phillipa
