I am new to this, but I am wondering if anyone has had simular side effects from taking effexor. I have taken it about six months, and after trying nearly ever anti-depressent made, I was very pleased in the begining, I felt pain in my neck I assumed was from tension and began stretching and relaxation techniques to relieve this, suddenly,I began feeling shock-like sensations in figertips-wasn't bad enoughto stop meds though. but when they started occuring in my neck, like when turning my head it was very discomforting- I began wondering what this drug was doing to my brain. attempts to contact Dr. resulted in seeing an assistant who augmented with welbutrin which made me way to irratible and anxious. stopped taking both and have had a horrible time in withdrawl, shocking sensations are getting worse, now seem all over upper body how long will this last? today I again took 37.5 of the effexor seeking a little relief. does this sound familar to anyone?

i am sorry you are going through such a rough time. what you are feeling could be from the meds OR your anxiety. i can tell you first-hand, when your body is worked up from anxiety, the nerves can do just about anything. i've had muscle flinches, numbness, night sweats, and the shock-like sensations you described. all of them went away over the time, but it took a while.
please just hang in there, it will get better, i promise. please keep posting often, keeping us updated. people can help you in here.
This is the end of the thread.
