From Effexor to Cymbalta???

Posted by TrishP on September 26, 2005, at 14:09:28

I complained about the terrible withdrawl I experienced with Effexor, so my doctor suggested I try Cymbalta. She says the withdrawl isn't bad.

The Effexor was great - except for the withdrawl.

Does anyone have any input on Cymbalta? Is it just like Effexor without the withdrawl effects?

Is there weight gain?

everything i hear suggests that cymbalta is inferior to effexor... why did you have to discontinue effexor?

Why did you stop Effexor? If Effexor withdrawal is done properly, it's not supposed to be too bad. It should be tapered down over a period of about 6 weeks. And one should take Prozac during that 6 week period. But I think that most docs don't know that.

I never took Effexor. But when I stopped Cymbalta, I didn't have any problems.

But since you did well on Effexor, I think you should go back on it. Effexor has a longer track record and it appears to be very safe and effective.

I tried cymbalta last year when it first came out. Got up to 60mg. When I didn't notice any improvement after about 3months I stopped it without any problems. But I thought cymbalta was supposed to be superior to effexor? Fondly, Phillipa

I think that Cymbalta is superior in the sense that it's easier to figure out the correct dosage. Cymbalta is thought to have the same effect on neuotransmitters at all dose ranges.

I'm glad you didn't have any side effects when you got off of it. It's kind of scary hearing all the tales of brain zaps, etc.
