Well, where do I start... I'm bi-polar (which is a word that scares me). I was diagnosed in Sept 03, when because of a BAD break-up I fell into such a deep depression that something had to be done. That was the beginning of a long experiment of finding the right drugs and combinations that would work for me. I started with Effexor (Which reached 150 in the am and 75 in the pm) and Zyeprexa (3.5) (which made me gain 50lbs in a year!) A few months later I added Wellbutrin to the mix (150). When I couldn't stand the thought of gaining another pound I took myself off of the Zyprexia (which had really been helping me sleep), and the doctor increased the Wellbutrin (300). I lost 16 lbs in about 12 days!
Dec. 04 I got married, and I can honestly say if it had not been for the drugs it probably would never have happened. Because of the drugs, I felt normal for the first time. I want to encourage anyone that thinks they need help to get it! Don't keep telling yourself, "I'm better than I used to be". That's what I did for years!
My husband and I are thinking about having a baby and now the tension is rising about what to do with my drugs (Effexor 75, and Wellbutrin 450). I've heard about changing to Prozac, I'm just concerned about how well my body is going to take the change.
Any insight?

I was on Prozac for my second pregnancy and neither my daughter or I had any adverse effects. It was the right choice for me--keep in mind postpartum can be tough too with all those hormones bouncing around.

That's what I'm really concerned about is how I will be affected afterword. Did the Prozac help you or did you still struggle with depression?
Can anyone else fill me in with your own postpartum depression, and how it was delt with?

yes, I believe the prozac helped tremendously. I wasn't as nearly as depressed as I was after my first child (but the first can be extra difficult anyway because it's such a big change to your life). My anxiety was lessened and I enjoyed my daughter more.
