Sonata sleeping pill

Posted by Sarah T. on September 19, 2005, at 23:29:26

Hi. If any of you have taken Sonata, could you tell me about your experience with it. Did it help you sleep? Was it a sound, restorative sleep? How does it compare with other sleep medications like Ambien or Lunesta? Does it impair memory?

Thanks for any help.

hey sarah.
a long time ago i took Sonata. it worked initially, at first it gave me some really wierd dreams but it worked, no groggy feeling in morning. but after a while it pooped out and had to try something else.
i'm taking ambien now. i take 20mg and it makes me tired enough to try to go to sleep, doesn't 'knock me out or anything' but it does leave me a little groggy in morning.
i'd give sonata a chance.

I found both Ambien and Lunesta to be superior to Sonata. Sonata doesn't last as long as those two. I woke up in the night a lot which was not very good.

Thanks to all of you for your replies. I do remember reading that the makers of Sonata tried to capitalize on its short duration of action. I think they said it was one of the only sleeping pills that you could take if you wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep. Most of the other sleeping pills require at least 7-8 hours "downtime," but since Sonata washes out so quickly, they claimed you could take it in the middle of the night and still wake up at your usual time.
