Hi all,
Strange question- has anyone with iron deficiency experienced an improvement in any kind of psychiatric problem, especially in problems involving hyperarousal?
Thanks.

I haven't knowingly had any iron defficiencies, so I cant say whether it helps or not. However I do find that even a very low dose of iron supplement makes me quite anxious and agitated.
I always thought iron defficiency was bad, perhapse this is not the case

I have low iron, and take Niferex 150, which is OTC, but you have to go to the pharmacy to get it, I guess because it's high potency. All iron supplements aren't the same, this is the only one I've had a noticeable difference on.
I don't take it every day, maybe 2 - 3 times a week, and my levels have been w/in normal. When I'm fatigued and I take it and feel much better, more energetic. Helps my mood because I hate to feel fatigued, helps cognition because fatigue makes me not think as clearly.

There's a lot of rethinking going on about iron levels. Elevated iron levels are dangerous, especially for men, and there are studies indicating that recommended levels may in fact be too high. But most iron studies deal with physical symptoms of too much or too little iron rather than emotional symptoms. Perhaps it's time for those to be looked into.
