How long have you been taking Seroquel? For some people, the sedation is a startup side effect that dissipates over the course of a couple of weeks.

This might be a case where more is better. Although there is still much debate amongst people taking Seroquel, some people find it less sedating at the higher dosages - 100mg and higher.

If raising the dosage doesn't work, you could try taking Provigil (modafinil). It helps keep people awake during the day, and acts quite differently from the classic stimulants. Many people actually report feeling calmer while taking it. You could start at 100mg in the morning or 50/50 morning and noon. Most people seem to target the recommended dose of 200mg, but this might be too much for you to start with. Side effects include a headache that usually dissipates within a few days. Overall, Provigil produces less anxiety, irritability, jitteriness, and insomnia compared to the classic stimulants.

There is nothing wrong with trying Ritalin or Adderall to offset the sedation caused by Seroquel. Everyone has a unique biological make-up that yields different reactions to the same drug. Your response to these drugs might be a very pleasant one rather than a harsh one.

Good luck.

scott:

thanks for the reply. had been checking every few hours.

i have been on seroquel for 8 weeks and it is the first drug ive tried (out of 20-something) that has ever had an effect on my GAD (had for eight years). it just terminates the rage of nervous energy.

i dont want to give it up. i was taking 100mg/day at the start, and i had good energy during the day. now that i am down to 25mg/day, i am very tired.

that is very interesting what you said about maybe taking LESS could make you feel MORE tired. ive heard some other ppl say that, too.

my pdoc recently prescribed me paxil for the morning, i guess to help wake me, but i will ask her about provigil next time i see the doc.

thanks, man, michael

ps how are you feeling these days?
