connected with yeast/candida?
I was thinking about this and I have a family history of severe bipolar. My grandmother was bipolar (paternal) as is my dad.
My grandmother suffered with yeast infections as far back as I recall, and my dad does as well. We are about the only adults I've ever known to get thrush in adulthood.
I'm still not sold that I am bipolar (and if I am, it must be a milder version of what my family has), but I also have this yeast problem.
I've read a few things about some doctor's who believe bipolar is actually a yeast problem. Any thoughts?
I know since I've been taking anti fungals and cutting waaay back on sugar, I've been feeling better mentally.

I don't think so. Every so often, a health personality will suggest that candidiasis is at the root of all medical conditions, especially depression. Food allergies is another one often suggested as a cause of mental illness. While I believe these things can produce mild to moderate depressions that are probably more anergic than dysphoric, I don't think they can account for the most severe depressions and bipolar disorders.

Which antifungals have you been taking? What dosages?
I think your cutting back on sugar is a positive decision that can only help to stabilize your energy and mood throughout the day.
Every little bit helps.

I am taking three tablespoons of Nystatin daily.
When I finish this up, I'll take Diflucan for a few months.
Thanks Scott.

I have occasional but ongoing yeast on my tongue and my doc just rights it off as "someone who produces to much." I do know when it gets bad and I take an antibiotic along with an antifungal, my mood lifts. This happens every time (last time about 3 months ago) and I feel like it's a waste of time to discuss with my doc simply because I don't think he knows enough about yeast/bacteria that can lead to bipolar depression/unipolar depression.
If you find any leads on this topic, let me know and I will do the same.
