I was recently switched from ativan to klonopin, and I hate the klonopin. I have headaches, I feel more sedated, and rather shaky and weak sometimes. I called the Dr. at she is switching me back to ativan. Has anyone else experienced a problem with klonopin, like I described? Many people say these pills are the same or very much alike, but I was feeling much better on the ativan. Please let me know what you all think. thank you

My experience was the opposite of yours. Klonopin is my Godsend. Ativan was not a horrible experience for me but I never had the sedation action pass and this seemed to lead to apathy and lack of drive and motivation.
Generally, I need a routine benzo and Klonopin works well for me without pitfalls.
I think there are many personal experiences to attest to the fact just because drugs are the same class, there are VERY individual differences in the responses of one person to another.
I think the key is to find what works for you with good benefits and lack of horrors.
Everyone is different and I hope Ativan continues to be a good treatment for you.

I didn't like klonopin. Liked ativan when I took it. It seems I've built quite a tolerance oveer the years so I don't know how it would work now. Fondly, Phillipa

When i started klonopin I hated it too. I called my pdoc and she switched me to ativan, but it didnt work at all. So, I gave the klonopin another try, it took about 6 weeks for the side effects to pass and now I dont know what i would do without it.
It worked better for me that xanax or ativan.

Klonopin never worked for me, it made me sedated, weak, and eventually dangerously depressed.
The ativan was much better for me, it took the anxiety away, and left the rest of me fairly much intact. Though over a long period of time (years) it did increase my mood lability, which I didn't really know, until I stopped it altogether.

Hi ,
i took Ativan for a few months and it had a good effect but i developed a tolerance to it and it took more and more to have the same effect.
My dr switched me to klonopin. It was nothing like ativan to me- i had trouble doing anything. i wasn't able to 'switch' to work part (i have DID).
i had trouble at work- not remembering and had lack of strength, co-ordination, balance. i wasn't able to take it.Now i take valium and my dr is happy becuse it's not as short-acting as ativan. It's easier to go off of if you're taking a lot.
Take care,
kerria
