bromazepam 6mg.
Also,
Amisulpride 50mg....but very rare risk of akathisia and weight gain at this dose is worriesome.

Hi DH!
Do you like any of the other antipsychotics? I think you said you developed akathisia on some.

Yes, I hated Thioradizne (total Zombie-straight-jacket effect),Fluphenazine(Akathisia, depression, abnormal body movements,Perphenazine(Zombie, restlesness),Trifluperazine (Akathisia).
Flupenthixol at 1mg had an alerting motivating effect but one drawback: severe restless legs- I knew it would develope into Akathisia so I stopped.
All of the above I tried a couple of times max except Flupenthixol which I took very occasionaly not more than 1mg a day (with lorazepam in my pocket just in case of Akathisia).
- Sulpiride at 50mg is different. No side effects at all and gives a totally different taming effect unlike BZ or SSRIs.However 100mg gave an dysphoric mood.
- Amisulpride 50mg is alittle more sedating than its brother, and has the same effect + a sort of "good feeling" antidepressant effect, but soon fade away with repeated doses. No side effects at this dose, but anyway I tend to use the last 2 very very rarley because I'm afraid of akathisia or any long term side effects (TD)+ any weight gain, which thankfully non happened so far.
Anyway I'm not a big fan of all neuroleptics. All the best,
DH

Hi DH!
I've only tried chlorpromazine and prochlorperazine. Chlorpromazine was vile. I didn't have any side effects from prochlorperazine but I only took a tiny dose - with codeine to prevent nausea/vomiting.
Did you find trifluoperazine, fluphenazine and perphenazine to be similar??? Fluphenazine seems to have acquired a reputation for being the most 'depressing'. Perphenazine seems to be thought of as being a bit more sedating.... and trifluoperazine a bit less sedating.
>Sulpiride at 50mg is different. No side effects at all and gives a totally different taming effect unlike BZ or SSRIs. However 100mg gave an dysphoric mood.
Yes definately, the dose needs to be low for anxiety/depression. What do you mean when you say it was taming? Did it effect you similar to flupenthixol?
>Amisulpride 50mg is alittle more sedating than its brother.....
Perhaps 50mg was a bit too much, did you try 25mg? 25mg amisulpride is claimed to be 'similar' to 50mg sulpiride.
Kind regards

Hi ED!
> Perphenazine seems to be thought of as being a bit more sedating.... and trifluoperazine a bit less sedating. That is very true.
> >Sulpiride at 50mg is different. >
What do you mean when you say it was taming? Did it effect you similar to flupenthixol? No. Flup. is quite activating at 1mg in the mornong. It makes me want to clean things, organize things...etc.
Sulpiride just gives me a warm anxiolytic effect and the things that used to worry me vanish.
25mg amisulpride is claimed to be 'similar' to 50mg sulpiride.
I do not know.Amisulpride at 50 did not result in dysphoria at all(unlike Sulpiride 100)
.It has the same effect as Sulpiride 50,but in addition it just makes me feel good from the inside.
It "brightens" my mood. But as I said before, this second effect does not last with repeated doses,or else I would have taken it regularly.
That is why I keep a couple of packs when I need to feel good for a day or 2 (when I'm mildly depressed). All the best!

Have you tried it at 500mcg? Could be good - as a short term measure.

How did perphenazine affect your anxiety?
Was amisulpride as effective for your anxiety as sulpiride?
All the best!

Hi ED!

> How did perphenazine affect your anxiety?
It just made me sedated and "out",but to a much lesser extent than the horrible Thioradazine.I did not like the effect.Sulpiride/Amisulpride relief the anxiety without losing ones conscioussness.
>
> Was amisulpride as effective for your anxiety as sulpiride?I think they are identical in this regard. I have a theory :
Since Sulpiride is a pure DA2,and Amisulpride is a pure DA2/DA3,I think the difference bt is the DA3 which may be involved in more antidepressant effect in ;ow doses. What do you think?

Hi DH!
Sulpiride binds to DA3 receptors too.
How quickly did you develop tolerance to the mood elevating effect of amisulpride?

Fred! You speak for me exactly. I can't drink any more so haven't got access to a good anxiolytic. However I found that the anxiety came back worse when the alcohol wore off.I think the point is, if alcohol is such a good anxiolytic, can't the drug experts come up with a harmless version of alcohol? Xanax etc don't do much for me either, but it's all I've got. Marijuana can precipitate severe anxiety I find BTW

Dalmane is nice and solid, but leaves me with a slight chemical taste.

Much more sedative, more like Rohypnol.

Hi again Dec :-)
Is Rohypnol the most sedating benzo you've tried?
Out of all the benzos I've tried, Ativan was the *least* sedating.

Hi Dec,
Flunitrazepam (Rohypnol) injection - now that was sedating! Midazolam is used instead these days. I bet flunitrazepam injection is still available in some countries though.

Hi Ed
Yes, Rohypnol is the most sedating benzo for me. And maybe Xanax was the least, I only took it once. Rohypnol's a great way to increase a benzo tolerance. Sometimes people withdrawing from opiates use lots of it to sleep and stay sane, but it can be a scary habit as well. You don't want to run out.

Hi Dec,
That's funny because I find Xanax really sedating at all doses, much more than Valium.
What dose of Rohypnol did you take?

Hello Ed
My experience with Xanax was once on a plane coming back from Thailand. Seemed different to other benzos I was more familiar with.
Rohypnol you can break into quarters, and I would use the minimum, but that was more then, and I was using it to cope with my heroin problem, meaning that as the heroin ran out of me and things became difficult I could use 1/4+ of Rohypnol to function. More than one or two a day would be a worry. But back then some doctors would give you all the benzos you wanted. Late 70's.
Looking back, it's a hole I'm very happy to have dug my way out of, even though I'm not quite there yet.

Hello Declan
>My experience with Xanax was once on a plane coming back from Thailand. Seemed different to other benzos I was more familiar with.
I found it less muscle relaxant than Valium. It wasn't very effective for my anxiety. I prefer Valium.
Is flunitrazepam still available in Australia? I think it might be available under the brand name Hypnodorm.
