If so, how's it treating you?

I have been taking mirtazapine (remeron/zispin) 30mg for quite some time now. I have tried a few other antidepressants (SSRI's, tricyclics, effexor, reboxetine) and for me its definately been the best. I even like the taste of the oral dispersable soltab things!

Hey,

I'm on 30mg mirtazapine. I love the taste of the dissolve-y thingies too! I think it's quite a good AD, I take it along with Efexor.

Hi Bunny,

Thanks for replying.

Why are there oral dispersable soltabs? Why not just a pill?

Did it make you very hungry? Did that do away with time? What about restless legs - I got restless legs the first two times I took it. (The first time I took 15mg, was pretty sedated that night and a little the next day. The second time I tried 30mg and was totally out of it that night before I fell asleep but not at all sedated the next day.

I've read that it works pretty fast. Like within a week, you should feel much better. Was that true for you?

I'm pretty worried about the hunger thing. I don't want to become bulimic again...

The SSRI's haven't been that great for me either for depression or anxiety and I've had lots of side effects. Side effects were a big problem with tricyclics, too, so my pdoc is thinking of using Remeron either alone or to add to either Lexapro or Celexa.

Hi.

If you read my other post above, you know my fears about mirtazapine. Did you have any problems with it? Side effects, I mean? And did they go away?

I took Effexor for a long time - it was great for anxiety. I'd still be taking it if it hadn't pooped out. But it worked well for years.

Hope you are feeling better.

I just tapered off the last remeron dose, but was on it for a couple years.
It worked very well on depression and panic. The weight gain, however, was pretty bad.
I also had the strange problem with hating sex. The whole idea of it just seemed unnatural.
Now that I'm off it, and onto celexa, that problem has gone away.
But, all in all it is a good drug. Just watch what you eat and maybe get some low dose wellbutrin to combat the weight gain.

Your very welcome.

There are pills too available over here as generic mirtazapine. I have no idea why the zispin brand are oral dispersable nor what, if any advantage it might have apart from maybe leaving you with a pleasant after taste when you go to sleep! I think the taste is a love it or hate it thing, they taste of sugary orange.

Yes to both, funnily enough though I didnt put on that much weight just snacked a lot. It calmed down after about a month. I would say I still eat more but I think thats because when I was depressed I just didnt eat very much, I enjoy food now!

> What about restless legs - I got restless legs the first two times I took it.

I didnt get restless legs.

> (The first time I took 15mg, was pretty sedated that night and a little the next day. The second time Iefore I fell asleep but not at all sedated the next day.

It made me pretty tired for the first few weeks. I wouldnt say it was a sedation effect though as in knocked out or not thinking clearly just yawny and tired. It might be coincidence but it reduced alot after I went upto 30mg from 15mg.

Yes, and it kept on going, after a week I was feeling alot better, but after 4 weeks I was even less depressed. To be honest it kind of suprised me just how depressed I had been!

You'll have to be careful and keep an eye on yourself. Perhaps though if the mirtazapine works you'll be less likely to be bulimic because you'll be less depressed, maybe.

Well mirtazapine does have side effects so only time will tell which you get and how well you can tolerate them. As far as I know the main side effects are hunger and sedation. I found both manageable and well worth the payoff of the antidepressant effect.

Best regards, Bunny

Hi Buns!

For some reason, Zispin tablets were discontinued in the UK and replaced by Zispin SolTabs. As you say, you can still get the generic tablets though.

I'm told the SolTabs give a bad aftertaste!

one more question - what about dry mouth?

I wasn't expecting the intense dry mouth from Remeron. Does this go away or lessen with time?

I didnt really get dry mouth from mirtazapine, the other meds I take give me dry mouth so by the time I started mirtazapine I think I was aclimatized to it. I dont have any dry mouth now if thats any use to know. Best regards Bunny

Thanks. It seems to be a side effect I just can't get away from. Even on 2.5mg Lexapro.

Oh well.

Marsha
