My trip was cut short.
My mother attempted suicide (overdose). Thankfully, she is okay, she just slept for 40 hours.
Anyway, I talked with her today and she is very suicidal still but will not leave to be admitted into a hospital.
I am very concerned. I have contacted the mental health center down there and spoke with a dr./psychiatrist and he says I can only call an attorney and prove her "unfit" to ahve her committed.
Is there not any way for me to make her get help besides court????

I am so sorry to hear that. Did she go to a hospital ?
Has she been diagnosed with any mentall illness in the past ?
I wish I could provide more insight, but I don't know how the system works.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Did she end up being medically treated for the OD?
Because if she was treated in an emergency department she could be admitted for psychiatric evaluation for up to 72 hours whether she wanted to be there or not. If she objected within that 72 hour period then the matter would have to be taken to court to ensure her stay beyond that point. I hope this gets better somehow. Take care of yourself.

Hi.
I think the best idea would be for you to consult with the social worker at the hospital to review your options and procedures.
She can be committed without her having to move a muscle. If you think she is still suicidal, it might be the best thing to do for all involved.
I'm sorry that this happened.

Spriggy, Just caught this thread. Sorry I'm late in answering. What Scott said is definitely true. Is it the stress of your Dad? E-mail me okay. Leaving for DC in Am for four days. Fondly, Phillipa
