need meds again I think

Posted by teek30 on July 29, 2005, at 10:26:54

Let me first just say my depression has come back again, about 4 weeks or so after quitting SSRI's. I suffer from depression that comes and go and now to add to it the fact that I cant seem to do without the meds. I also suffer somewhat from Generalized Anxiety

Here's my past
Prozac-took briefly, too stimulating for me
Paxil-love it, but kills my sex drive and modivation
Zoloft-I think my favorite as it does everything "ok" but the side effects weren't too bad
Lexapro-I think something like paxil with less sexual side effects but easily as much weight gain

I HATE making cocktails for this stuff-its expensive and just dont like the idea of taking more than 1 pill. Perhaps I will just go back to Zoloft at a small dosage of 50-75mgs

Does anyone know the smallest theraputic dose for paxil however? Just curious

Thanks-this is my first post here

I had success with only 10mg of Paxil. I did end up having to increase it to 20 after about 6 months. Good luck with your search for the right med. I am in the same boat and it's such a frustrating search.

It really depends. Some people need more and some less. If you have anxiety it often takes more than just depression alone. I used to take 50mg (a pain b/c pills only come in 10, 20, 40 so I had to take 2 pills). Some people find Effexor helpful. It is in a different class of drugs than you have tried before, but it is approved for both depression and generalized anxiety. I have never tried it though, so I can't speak from personal experience.

Best,
EE

How were your sexual side effects on 10mg compared to 20mg? Did you encounter much on 10mg?

I took 20mg before and loved it, but stopped do to sexual side effects. It's been over a year and I'm thinking about giving it a try at 10mg, but am stilled wondering if I'll encounter sexual sides at 10mg?

The effects did get greater on 20mg than the 10mg. I don't recall having any sexual side effects on 10mg.

Good luck
