I'm taking Wellbutrin, have stopped the effexor, but I still need something to take the edge off Wellbutrin so I am trying Buspar. It makes my heart feel funny - I guess palpatations?
I guess I could take Klonopin - but the doc doesn't like to keep someone on that for long.
I know a mood stablizer would probably work, but I don't want any sexual side effects and I don't want any weight gain.
Trileptal messed with my period. I'm kind of afraid of taking a low dose of Risperdal or Seroquel due to the TD.
Any suggestions to even out Wellbutrin? I just need a low dose of something to even me out. I don't want to take lithium.
Help

Hi trish.
klonopin helped me a great deal when i took wellbutrin, it may be a better choice than buspar.buspar has some dopaminergic activity, as does wellbutrin, so this could be causing agitation, but just a guess on my part. i know i couldn't tolerate a high dose of buspar, even on prozac. klonopin is very helpful for me!! all the best..john berk

hey! Personally, I love Buspar *BUT* fully 10% of people who take it will end up withdrawing due to side effects, so stuff like this happens. I completely understand your aversion to taking any dose of antipsychotics...in addition to TD, there are other problems to worry about. Topomax does help a lot of people, but its also been nicknamed "dopomax"--it apparently makes some people really stupid. I think that in a case like this a benzo might be the way to go...if you need the Wellbutrin, your doc should be willing to treat the side effects. I think as-needed Librium might be a better choice than Klonopin...there's a lower likelihood of inducing/worsening depression or flattening out your mood, and its easier to use on an "as-needed" basis, which is how lots of docs prefer to RX benzos (for some reason, fixed dosing--i.e., 2mgs/Klonopin a day-- makes some docs nervous, but they'll RX the same quanitity for "as-needed" use). Good luck!
