Posted by coll81 on July 7, 2005, at 19:48:50

hi, i was wondering if anyone has taken zoloft for longer than a few months and if you've gained weight, stayed the same, or lost? did it help well with the depression? ive been taking celexa 20mg and its just doing nothing for me anymore.

I take 200mg and I think it is the medication that has dropped weight for me.

well,
I have been taking zoloft for about 10 years and only when I increased the dose to 200mg from 150mg about 4 months ago did I notice my appetite decrease gradually. It is different for everyone but if it helps try not to worry about it. It is far better to feel better than to be worried about 10 pounds, but as I say it might have the weight loss effect. I watch what I eat as well and exercise regularly,

I take Zoloft as well, and have not gained a pound! I also think it helps with people who eat because of anxiety. I have lost a few pounds, to be exact. -L

Just a couple of quick questions, if you don't mind. I just started Zoloft a little over a week ago, and have been on 50mg for a week. Have you found it activating? When do you take your dose? You mention that you have been on it for 10 years. Were you ever at 50mg or 75mg, and how effective were those low doses? Are you augmenting with anything?

Thanks so much.

Tamaraj,
I will happily answer any questions you have! I believe that when I initially went on Zoloft I went up quite rapidly as I wasn't doing very well but to be honest it was so long ago I can't remember. I have OCD and for us Zoloft usually is used at higher doses, thus me being at 200mg. I take 100mg in the morning and 100mg 12 hours later in the evening, but ask your doctor what the best way for you to take it, it is different for everyone. It certainly hasn't made me more tired once I have been on it for a while, at first I was a little dozy but then it was neutral as far as energy. It is a superb drug for me, helps so much with my OCD and depression.

If I were you the next time you go into see your doctor, write down a list of questions and be sure to ask them. Please don't hesitate to ask me any more questions, take care and let me know of your progress,
mogger

Thanks so much for answering my questions. I am glad that Zoloft has worked so well for you. I hope I have a good response as well. It is nice when we find a med that works, and works well. I had that with Paxil, but when I tried to go back on it a year ago, it didn't work :-(

If I have any more questions, I will be sure to ask.

Take care,

Tamara
