What helps with fatigue?

Posted by Tom Twilight on July 8, 2005, at 14:17:54

I've just started Marplan, although I'm on a low dose I'm feeling quite tired although this may not be entially due to the Marplan.
Unfortunatly my job is very physically demanding!

I was wondering what can be combined with an MAOI that helps with fatigue?

Conventional stimulents are a no-no because I live in the UK.
I also tried Provigil but felt horrible!

Any other ideas Meds or supplements?

Are you sleeping OK? Any energising herbs that I know of will aggravate insomnia. Adrafinil made me fairly nonfunctional sometimes.

make y6ourself a big jug of Yerba Mate' tea. Brew it strong and add honey/sugar or lemon. (tastes like crap) Drink it all day. The one tried and true safe herbal stim that always works for me. You need to drink it all day though.

It really does work and lifts your mood as well.
Check out the alternative board for lots of input.

Peace,

You make a good point about sleep, I haven't been sleeping well since I started the Marplan.

I do take Remeron and occasionaly Zolpiderm to help with insomnia, I don't like to use them to often
Remeron, although it intially works great does loose its affectivness for sleep
I can't tolerate Trazadone!

What was your experience with Adrafanil like?

My experience with Adrafinil was not always great, but it's worth a try.
Rhodiola is a nice herb but will probably make your sleep worse being a bit long-acting. It's a bit dopaminergic, which might go well with Marplan.
What I'd try to do in your situation, first of all, is get a good sleep every night. It's not something I'm good at, but last night I went to bed at 9pm, woke at 1am, and did this.......2.5mg Valium, sedating chinese herbs in a decent dose and a small joint. Slept till 5am. Which was an achievement for me.

I am on stimulants and still have no problem falling and staying asleep.

Exercise has helped me boost energy, both cardio and strenghtening. Best not too much in the evening if you have sleep difficulties.

Mate is good too, watch out for tooth decay.

B-complex helps a bit. Dietary or metabolism issues can feel like lugging heavy chains.
Talking to a dietician may reveal a treasure of info.

Change helps. Breaking routine deliberate is a necessity for me or I'll end up getting more and more exhausted. And that is just the opposite of what I FEEL like doing.

Hi!

-- Is that Yerba Mate? I have been wanting to try it, and bought some tea as well as capsules. Have you found that it gives sustained energy? Also, have you found that it helps with motivation and concentration? How much do you usually take when you take it? Also, are there any dangers using it when you are on an AD?

Thanks, and sorry for all the questions.

I have Yerba Mate lose, fill cup with water and a bit of lime and drink through a yerba filtering straw. Refill cup with water many times. Tastes horrible in the beginning, cools and refreshes. Indios use it for work in high altitudes.
I can't do stimulants AND coffee/mate/tea or my heart tries to jump out of my mouth.
Concentration and motivation... nothing helps me exept a deadline. Stimulants keep me awake longer, I have about 2 -3 hours before coasting on reserves.

Thanks so much. I think I will try it very soon (nm) » bimini
