I tried Aricept about a year ago.
> Were any effects were noted on mood.Yes. It made mine worse. If there were any improvements in cognition, I didn't recognize them. I did not like the way I felt on this drug.

Hi Scott,
Can you tell me how you felt on Aricept? Did you feel anxious, more depressed, sluggish mentally and/or physically? Were you taking it alone or in combination with other meds?

Yes. I tried Aricept. It took a few weeks to kick in. I found it improved both mood and cognition. And I think it also helped motivation. If it hadn't raised my liver enzymes, I would have stayed with it. I was also taking Lamictal.emme

As best as I can remember, I took Aricept in combination with Lamictal, Abilify, and Zoloft. I felt dysphoric on it. I don't recall any increase in anxiety, but anxiety is not really something that I experience much of, anyway. I did feel more fatigued, though. I was not affected cognitively, neither for good nor worse. Overall, taking the drug made things worse and not better.

Hi Scott.
Thanks for the information. That's interesting that it made you fatigued. Do you remember how long you were on it?It seems as if you are not one of those people who has difficulty with polypharmacy and drug interactions. You've taken some pretty creative drug combinations.

Hi Scott,
Have you ever tried galantamine? River1924 told me that other AchE inhibitors made him depressed.....but not galantamine. Perhaps it's got something to do with it's activity as nicotinic receptors.

Yes, aren't nicotine receptor agonists actually antidepressant?
I know that cholinergic agonists are purportedly depressogenic.

Maybe it's more benign being herbal. What's the snowdrop plant/flower anyway?

Hi Declan,
>What's the snowdrop plant/flower anyway?
It's a pretty white flower :-)
'The plant sources of galantamine are found in the family Amaryllidaceae, which consists of herbaceous plants that have strap-shaped leaves and clusters of flowers (rarely one flower) atop a leafless stem. Among the genera in this family are four that include the principal galantamine-containing species:
Galanthus (G. nivalis and G. woronowii) — snowdrop
Leucojum (L. aestivum) — snowflake
Lycoris (L. radiata) — spider lily
Narcissus (N. pseudonarcissus L.) — daffodil
As their common names suggest, the Galanthus and Leucojum species look very similar, and they are often confused. Although Galanthus was the traditional source of galantamine, the compound is now obtained primarily from Narcissus and Leucojum species, as well as being manufactured synthetically.'Some pics of Galanthus nivalis.....

I have tried Galantamine for two weeks. No obvious effects on cognition, alas. Grouchy some days, but that may just be me.
ADHD continues, I left the house without picture id or bus pass this morning, but at least I took my keys. Still hoping for a magic cureStill the best cure for "the blahs" seems to be the boxing gym.
This is the end of the thread.
