lack of OR fragmented sleep caused by desipramine

Posted by iforgotmypassword on July 1, 2005, at 7:50:07

hi. i was wondering if anyone else gets this from desipramine, and if it causes any adverse effects on ones health. a main concern is how i look like crap all the time and i have seemed to have aged much more significantly over the past year or so... it really sounds shallow, but i find it really depressing. people used to compliment me on my appearance maybe a year or two ago, but recently i think i can see why they really don't anymore, and i don't have any talents or virtues to make up for it. ugh. sorry for the self-pity.

Hi,

Yes, I'm afraid desipramine sometimes causes insomnia and sleep disturbances. Perhaps you should reduce the dose.

Kind regards

I didn't have any adverse effects from desipramine. The changes in your appearance might be from the way you just happen to be aging, or maybe the effects of the underlying depression. Everyone gets older--something I'm dealing with too.

Most people don't have any "talents or virtues" either. Would you be friends with someone who was a superb musician, if s/he was an *sshole otherwise?

I take desipramine, but I also take an ambien every night. It isn't ideal, but my pdoc wants to get me through this long episode of depression before we start trying to lower doses any more. I believe Ambien has actually helped both my depression and anxiety. It is amazing what a good night's sleep will do for you. Would such a thing be an option for you?

Jeez, don't bring up the aging thing. In the last five years I've really aged. Someone just suggested desipramine. If it ages you I won't try it. Fondly, Phillipa

PHILLIPA,
It does not age you. I have taken this med many times on and off for the last 15 years and I am 38 yrs old and I look no where near that. People never believe I am my true age. I have been on desipramine for the last few yrs steady and have seen no aging!!

just curious, do you suffer from any lack of sleep because of it? cos it could just be me, it often feels like i tend to react differently and more severely than other people to practically anything. :( made me kind of a strange and unpleasant person for other people to be around when i would smoke pot with them when i was younger. i could just have toxic sludge for brains.
