My dad has been on 4 mg's of Klonopin for 2 years. He ran out on Saturday and didn't get his refill.Yesterday, he had a grand mal seizure ( he's never had one before). Is it possible not having the Klonopin could have caused this seizure?
He's in ICU right now- he's lost his hearing (partially) and they are having a neurologist evaluate him.
Just curious if this was a possibility.

Hi spriggy,
I'm sorry about your dad. I hope that the effects are temporary. I don't know much about Klonopin, and I'm sure that others here can answer your question better. But one of the serious reactions can be seizures. And of course one is advised to avoid sudden stopping of the med, so it makes sense to me.Ugh. Hang in there, sweetie.

Spriggy, Since klonopin in high doses is used for seizures it certainly is possible. What does his doctor say? Lazarus will do it again. Fondly, Phillipa

Unfortunately I think this is one of the biggest concerns for people when they are withdrawing from larger amounts of benzodiazepines, like klonopin. I hope your dad will be better soon.
I'm so sorry to hear about this. I hope the doctors are giving you info
take care,
sleepy

Dear Spriggy,
>Is it possible not having the Klonopin could have caused this seizure?
Yes, it's very likely that stopping Klonopin was the cause. I'm sorry to hear he's so ill. I hope he improves quickly.
Kind regards
~Ed

Sorry to hear about this...
I'd wager money it was the klonopin. See the PDR.
