SUMMER....DRUG FREE?

Posted by Buckeye Fan on June 27, 2005, at 12:57:36

Hi to all.

Just need a reminder....isnt depression suppose to be WORSE in Winter????????

why do I feel like quitting my Meds Cold Turkey right Now..in the heat of Summer..when I am depressed?

By Qutting Zoloft and Xanax while in this depressed state....I thought about Fasting my way throught it.

I would like my body's natural ability to handle mood and stress to "re-take over'..any chance of that ??

Just looking for some opinions ...or maybe some have tried this..or are depressed in the Summer also

BF

HI! I ACTUALLY WENT INTO A MAJOR DEPRESSION 4 YEARS AGO, IN THE MIDDLE OF SUNNY JULY, SO I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN, I NEVER EXPECTED IT!! I RECOVERED, BUT HAVE ONGOING DYSTHMIA AND MODERATE OCD. I ALSO HAVE THE URGE TO CUT BACK MY MEDS, I AM ON PROZAC, [VERY TIRING FOR ME, AMONGST OTHER THINGS] AND WOULD LOVE TO TRY GOING THE REST OF THE SUMMER EITHER MED-FREE, OR ON A VERY LOW DOSE.

I JUST FEEL THE NEED TO GIVE MY SYSTEM A REST FROM MEDS, AND POSSIBLY TRY AN ALTERNATIVE, LIKE ST. JOHN'S WORT, OR SAM-E. I LOVE TO RUN AND LIFT IN THE SUMMER, AND I HATE THE WAY THE "ZAC" SLOWS ME DOWN. A FAST SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT IDEA, PLEASE LET US KNOW HOW YOU MAKE OUT, IF YOU DECIDE TO DO IT. I WOULD ASK MY DOCTOR ABOUT LOWERING MY MEDS, BUT I ALWAYS GET THE "THUMBS DOWN" ANYWAY, SO I MAY JUST USE MY INTUITION ON THIS ONE, AND IF I HAVE TROUBLE, I WILL DEFINETLY GO BACK TO A FULL DOSE. GOOD LUCK....JOHN BERK

Unless it's seasonal adjustment disorder I don't think it makes a difference what season it is. What if you live in sunny Florida? Fondly, Phillipa

I'm trying it!!! (nm) » Phillipa

Thanks to all for the responses.

Maybe I can find the courage to actually do it.
The witdrawl-hell cant be much worse than Summer
Depression.

The Sun and heat should be a HAPPY thing...

I see it as dry, desolete, boring, brown, depressing, wilderness-like Blah.

I would love to go drug free. But fear that I would nover recover from it. It takes time to get your thoughts back in order after a drug holiday.

Winter makes you more depressed because you get less sun light. My doctor once recomended a sun lamp for depression.

Good point.
I know it really doesnt matter WHERE you live...these mood swings can and do happen in every climate.

If it was Winter I'd find the winter cold, blah, lonely and isolated.
Its the outlook...the effects of depression that color our thinking.
Too bad that just KNOWING doesnt make it better. Ive done so research and study on anxiety and depression....im actually tired of the whole subject...but I appreciate the Info gained on Dr Bobs sites.

As one poster put it...there PDoc admitted that trial and error and patient info..is what they rely on for prescribing!!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable.

You know what just occurred to me?
I have been on 50 mg of Zoloft for almost a year now.

I remember posting last year how I had made it almosy all summer without AD's...but then in late August fekk into a huge depression...so I began taking Zoloft again ( instead of Effexor)

Wow...cant believe its almost July.

Maybe "poop out" is my problem...50 mg IS an really low dose isnt it?

Never hesitate to question the meds you are on. Never question to cut things down from time to time just to see.

I have been off meds for 4 months now. I have met with a lot of surprise. Somtimes I just assumed I'd be a wreck, but still waiting for that.

I think stressfull situations is what sets me off. I may start them again later as a preventative. The brain needs a break. AD's can sometimes throw you too far in one direction.
