I just recently upped my dosage of Luvox from 100mg to 200mg in an effort to rid myself of some of my OCD symptoms. My doctor also want me to stay on a low dose (500mg) of Depakote.
I read somewhere (it may have even been this site) that Depakote can have a "depressive effect" on someone.
Can anyone shed some more light on this as I have had some problems pulling out of my funk.
Thank you,
Michael

It can. Many anticonculsants can exasperate depression. Adding folic acid (1mg) seems to help many people avoid the most bothersome side effects.

I had a bad experience on Depakote and became lethargically depressed and could hardly move or think. It actually was a nice change from the agitated mixed state depression I was in from switching from my normal lithium. But yes, Depakote is known to cause lethargy and depression in some people. I felt much better after getting back on lithium.

I've been on 1,000mg Depakote; now gradually getting off of it. It makes me lethargic, apathetic and depressed.

I have mostly anxiety problems, but also low-grade dysthymia that's been known to slip into depression. Depakote made that happen pretty bad for me.
I think that my depressions are dopamine-related (almost exclusively tied to quitting smoking). Depakote increases GABA in the brain which can clamp down on dopamine. This can lead to the apathetic, anergic sort of depression that a couple of other people in this thread have described.
Why are you on the Depakote? Is it mood stabilization or for anxiety? Either it sounds like another drug might be a better choice.
Good luck,
