The title says it all really!
I know that there are a lot of sedating TCAs that can be used for insomnia, such as Doxepin, Dophiepin and Amytriptaline.
Is any one of these drugs noticibly better than any other?
Dothiepin has quite a short half-life I think, that might be an advarntage

IMO, the best TCA for insomnia is trimipramine.

Hi Tom,
Dothiepin and amitriptyline are the most popular TCAs in the UK. Doxepin (Sinequan) and trimipramine (Surmontil) are also available but they're rarely prescribed.
Why don't you taper mirtazapine more gradually? Are you having side effects?
Kind regards,
Ed.

My mother found doxepine was better than trimipramine for sleep. She didn't sleep on trimipramine and said it made her feel extrordinarily WIERD. Just one account though.

Doxepin works incredibly well at only 25 mg. for my insomnia.

Don't know why but TCA's wired me and kept me awake. Fondly, Phillipa

That is strange that TCA's and remeron kept you awake, you don't have any latent bipolar do you? Any bipolar in the family ?
My mom said was that when she was depressed TCA's made her sleep like a rock, but when she started to go manic, they didn't help a twittle. Of course, you could just have a *lot* of anxiety.
I am sorry I talk so much about my mom, but she is a wealth of drug trials and experiences that she's told me all about. She doesn't know how to use the computer, though.

Same dosage too. Doxepin is my friend.

Thanks for the advise all
I'm trying to decide between Doxepin and Dothiepin at the moment, I wonder if either one has a clear advarntage over the other?

Hi Tom :-)

Are you wanting to take a TCA as an antidepressant or just to help you sleep?
