I think it varies from person to person. But I think a lot of posters are taking 600mg. Fondly, Phillipa

Then perhaps i was wrong in thinking that my pdoc said he was doubleing my dose. I doubt he would put me on 1200mg. I think he may have thought i was taking 300mg.....

I think 1200 mgs is actually a fairly "normal" dose. It seems like a lot of people on this board take less than that, but when I was on it last summer I took 1200 mgs. I think some people even go higher.

Hi, I was doing some research on it myself and did find this info:
Easy to initiate and titrate in adults*
Monotherapy or Adjunctive Therapy
Start 600 mg/day given 300 mg BID
Add
(as clinically indicated) 600 mg/day maximum in approximately
1-week intervals
Monotherapy daily dose Maximum of 2400 mg/day
Adjunctive therapy daily dose† 1200 mg/ day is recommendedSo....I have put a call in to my pdoc to see if he wants me on 1200mg or not...
Thanks

Sounds like a good idea. Just my opinion though-- I think it would make more sense to go up to 900 first, if you have the 300mg pills. Going from 600 to 1200 all at once seems like a big jump to me.

My doctor suggested to me that I move up at 150mg increments every few days. This will definitely help avoid cognitive side effects. His main concern was hyponatremia (low sodium).

Scott, I'm curious. Since the trileptal seems to be helping with depression for you, why did you think Lamictal would be a better adjunct to Celexa for me than Trileptal? Maybe because you are already taking Lamictal and it had more of a positive effect for you than the Trileptal has?marsha

Hi Marsha.
At present, I think there is more data demonstrating the antidepressant potential of Lamictal for unipolor depression as well as bipoler depression than there is for Trileptal. I think the improvement I experienced with Trileptal may have been due to the bipolar nature of my illness. In addition, Lamictal is supposed to have fewer cognitive side effects. However, I found Trileptal at a dosage of 600mg to be clean after the startup effects disappeared.
Trileptal seems to be pooping-out on me. I'm not sure a dosage increase will do the trick. Gotta try it though, right?
