Lamictal is the only med that pulled me out of a terrible 3.5 yr depression, and helps w/ racing thoughts. The only set back, and it's a big one, is the severe insomnia i get. It forces me to take a sleeping pill (seroquel; klonopin i save for anxiety).
What is the closest thing to lamictal which might not insomnia from, and that has the anti depressant properties? I know that is tough to predict, considering i got the same from paxil, almost contradictory effects on both.
I appreciate any advice.Brian

Does the seroquel work for your insomnia? If so, is there any reason you don't want to take the Seroquel and stay on Lamictal?

I actually only take 50mgs of lamictal. I guess it's a trade-off that i have to accept. I guess I just wish that i could sleep naturally, w/o the assistance of a anti-psychotic/tranqualizer (seroquel), even though 125.-25mgs does the job.
I haven't tried lithium. I've tried topomax and depakote. Depakote did nothing, and topomax had too many side effects, especaially the mental dulling and horrible memory.

are you against taking the Seroquel? Lamictal is great for me, the only drug that has brought me out of a deep depression.

also check out the post today about Trileptal. It is fairly new post, quite interesting. My doctor added Buspar to my Lamictal to help with my ocd and anxiety, it really helped. I take 90mg of Buspar which is quite a bit but I have no side effects. Interesting enough, I tried Buspar years ago and it didn't really have an effect. But as soon as it was added to Lamictal, boom it worked fantastic.

My old pdoc put me on l50mg of trileptal. Said it was supposed to help with mood and sleep. But I still needed chloral hydrate. Fondly, Phillipa
