Anything to take edge off Wellbutrin?

Posted by TrishP on June 9, 2005, at 10:04:45

Just checking to see if anythings besides the Effexor will take the edge off of Wellbutrin?

Buspar?
Klonopin?
Trazadone?

I like Wellbutrin but it wires me.

What kind of Wellbutrin are you taking, and what dose? Wellbutrin XL (150mg in the am) interfered with my sleep, so I switched to the SR version, but only 200mg in the am. (I think it's usually taken twice a day.) That has helped a bit, but I still feel a little tense physically. I think that's gonna be the price I have to pay to get the benefits. I just have to remind myself throughout the day (and I mean all day long) to relax (especially my neck and shoulders) and BREATHE! I probably should take up meditation or yoga.

Don't take your second dose (if you are dosing twice a day) after 2pm. Get off of caffeine completely. That will really drive you up there, and really the first thing you have to do for starters. Chocolate seems to be ok, thank goodness! Xanax helps. Klonopin helps better. Tried Buspar and that didn't do anything. Trazadone didn't either.

I would try the Buspar first only because it's not a benzo. Then if that doesn't work try a benzo. Or even better, something alternative. Benzos can make you depresssed so you don't want to lose the effect. I would go to the Alternative board and do some digging there.

I took 1mg Xanax XR twice daily with Wellbutrin and it was the best combo ever. I thought about starting again, but don't really want to start a benzo again because once the the initial dose isn't effective any more, your stuck with having to increase the dose and chasing the effectiveness.

Low dose seroquel or low dose zyprexa should work great and they will likely make the wellbutrin and effexor work a lot better as well. And they will give you good sleep. It's just my own opinion, but I think buspar and traz are lousy meds for most people.

Prozac works well for me, but it has a side effect of anxiety. Low dose zyprexa turbocharges the prozac's effectiveness bigtime, and completely gets rid of the anxiety, and I sleep awesome with no hangover. I've tried traz and buspar, and they sucked bad.

I really like the APs as add ons to ADs for a whole lot of reasons.

That wouldn't take the edge off though. That's to help you sleep and regulate your sleeping patterns.

Maybe something like Passion Flower or Valerian Root.

Sorry to interrupt, but I'd like to redirect follow-ups regarding alternative treatments to Psycho-Babble Alternative. Here's a link:
