For those of you with generalized social anxiety who have tried both Klonopin and Valium, which was most effective for you?
I've been on Klonopin (2mg/day) for almost 5 years and it has worked quite well for me. I'm thinking of trying Valium, out of curiosity, as I've read on another board that some preferred Valium over Klonopin.
(BTW 1mg Klonopin=10mg Valium. Is this about right?)

I belive Klonopin is patented for anxiety, well social anxiety (crazy me). I dont know about Valium, i belive it is mainly prescribed for anxiety and muscle relaxant.
I currrently take Ativan which is some what similar to Valium but it is not "relieving" much its "numbing" which makes it not a really considerable benzo to mention, it doesnt make me more open, well it does a little, but i dont feel like talking, just a couple words and i want to move off and sit back. Which is also why i havent been in the mood, and it acutally flattens my mood, not irrtible, just feel flat. It is a antimanic med, my doctor thinks this is best. Ativan i dont belive is really that popular, well i dont know, but i dont hear many talk about it that much.
I used to take 3mg of Klonopin daily, about 2 months 2.5 months(now). It did make a diffrence in lorazepam becacuse about 1.25-1.5 is very well at opening up and chatting with other, i am relaxed and more "in the mood" to talk, but dont feel like working. Ativan i can work a bit better, with even 2mg, its not really that noticeable.Doc's are, well i belive like clonazepam, i dont know why mine prefers Lorazepam over it with me, but ask you doctor about a starting dose.
I have never taken Valium so i cant give you comparable info.

sorry i skipped the part you where already prescribed 2mg.
Ask your doctor for an alternative treatment, if you chose to go Valium, dont say Valium, rather diazepam, i dont what it is but my doc always pronouces the generic terms of them, and likes it when i do. I practice pronouncing them. DYYEAAZEPAM.

Well I'm taking l5mg of valium daily. I've taken all the benzos. I've never had any trouble switching from one to another. I didn't like klonopin. Years ago when I would take 5mg of valium it would relax me and totally remove my anxiety. Now I don't think it does a thing. Fondly,Phillipa

Valium (diazapan) does not have as good a reputation for treating SA as Klonopin.
I didn't find valium very effective for SA, were as klonopin was hepful.
On the other hand valium was much more benighn in terms of side effects, it didn't cause nearly as much depression for me as Klonopin.

I would say Klonopin is much more effective for Social Phobia, valium didnt do that much for me.

one thing to say for myself i hate ativan. its new name is LazyLorazepam.

Why don't you increase the dose to 20mg or 25mg? Are you afraid tolerance will develop or that you'd become too sedated on a higher dose?
