moclobemide plus deprenyl (selegiline)

Posted by relativelyhappy on May 25, 2005, at 16:06:09

I have been taking a mini-dose of moclobemide (37 mg) daily for a couple years as migraine prophylaxis, and it has been very effective. I tried taking higher doses, but began having a "serotonin" feeling (which I strongly dislike).

Recently, I began taking liquid (citrate) deprenyl (aka selegiline) 1 mg/day (because of sublingual absorbtion and avoiding the first pass via the liver, this seemingly tiny dose is more than it seems).

Result of combining the RIMA and the selective MAO-B inhibitor: even better mood, more confidence, and fewer food cravings (I have never been overweight, but would sometimes get the impulse to eat too much chocolate).
I have had no changes in blood pressure or heart rate. As for the potentially risky foods (in combination with these MAO inhibitors) I drink tea and eat yogurt, and occasionally have cheese or smoked salmon, but do not eat any of the other risky foods.

Indeed very interesting. I have a friend that swears by that selegiline-moclobemide combination. He takes 10mg of selegiline and doesn't follow any diet restrictions and has no problems.

I wouldn't be worrying about the diet thing, but I wonder how your friend sleeps. Even on 2.5mg/d selegeline my sleep was very light. And moclobemide can lighten sleep too, I think.
