I may or may not start taking seroquel, and I'm confused. I know many people take it to help them sleep. Really I need some anxiety control. I take effexor XR 225mg and klonopin .5mg daily, but still I can be pretty anxious and moody. Is this a good anti-anxiety med?

I know several people who take it for anxiety. Sometimes they find it hard to tolerate though because it makes them to too sleepy. But yes, it is often prescribed for anxiety.

Don't trust those AP's for sleep or anxiety. Fondly, Phillipa

Maybe you could expand on that comment for Sleepgirl's sake as she already confused as to what to do or believe.

Just in my opinion they're too new to use for anxiety. And there is always the possibility of TD even if it is low. My short experience of about 3 days on it left me not relaxed at all. Not able to sleep through the night even though they increased the dose. And the last night I awoke drunk and almost fainted. I had to be put back to bed. The pdoc discontinued it based on what the nurses reported. I could think but I couldn't express myself verbally. It came out as gibberish. Fondly, Phillipa

In clinical studies, seroquel has been shown effective against anxiety, acute agitation, and can help relieve substance abuse withdrawals too. And it is synergistic with antidepressants. It might make your effexor work better. A small minority of people do however experience increased anxiety with it.
I am on 5mg zyprexa and experience afternoon anxiety sometimes. My doc says I can play around with either increasing the zyprexa dosage or sampling seroquel as needed.

Yes , Seroquel works for anxiety and for sleep too , if you have tried others options and none of them have result on you , you should try it. You can start with an small dose 25 or 50mg at nigth.
But first give a try to others antianxiety meds, Although I take Seroquel , I would not recomed AP as a first option to anybody.
take care

I totally agree with your last statement. I think it's prescribed too often!
