I seems to be having dreams/nightmares again after a long period of time of not having any. I wonder if it has anything to do with me not being in a hypomania stage? It just seems like its been months and months since i have had dreams like this and now all the sudden they are back. And they started right before i began taking my new medication (trileptal) so its not related to that. I dont know. I have had dreams of ppl getting murdered, me winning money, etc.. I am just wondering if your mind isnt racing (as in a bp high* stage) that can cause me to be able to dream and actually remember them??
thanks S

> thanks SInteresting. I have no theory on the matter, but your post does resonate with me.
Ever since I started taking meds around 8 years ago I have enjoyed occasional spells of 'hypomania-lite'. Whilst nothing special, they at least allowed me to get some work done.
Anyway, this past Xmas, these bouts of mild hypomania completely dried up, returning me to my prior vegetable state. Since then, I have been tormented by multiple nightmares on a nightly basis. They are so vivid and life-like, I often have trouble seperating dreams from reality.
Unfortunately, my dreams always have a disturbing edge - confrontations, fights, getting sent to jail etc - and so I usually wake up feeling uncomfortable and anxious.
As for the Trileptal, I don't think it's uncommon for certain meds to promote dreaming in certain individuals. I certainly remember one or two meds in the past precipitating excessive dreaming.
Best,
Jah.

I've been having a lot of nightmares lately. But I seem to dream about things going on in my life that are bothering me. I'm always trying to get some where or accomplish something and I can't. Fondly, Phillipa

Gosh, I feel like we are friends at this point. It's amazing how you can feel close to someone on this website, yet you dont really know them...
Anyway, I too have dreams that I am always trying to get out of something or away. Like most of my dreams, I am in a house or building with many doors and secret passageways and my goal is to get out. It's weird...

Or I'm in a house with a lot of rooms and I can't get them clean and there is a deadline. When I was working as a nurse, I always dreamed that I couldn't get to my patients and was always struggling to find a way. I think it's related to stress. I hope we're all friends here. Fondly, Phillipa

In dream symbolism a house is your body and different rooms signify different things. Dreams usually show us some struggle we're trying to resolve in life. I know you have some right now from your posts. I bet Dr. Bob redirects us too. Fondly, Phillipa

Hey Phillipa, I have a lot of the same symptoms you have and am also taking 15mg Valium hs and my dreams seem to revolve around that same type of thing ....problems conflicts ,ruminations, hard to get things done, always dreaming about my former careeer profession, dreams about dreams (I know, thats really wierd) flying, gambling -- lots of circular type dreaming probably due to my OCD...in any case it just seem like I can't get anywhere in my dreams. No real nightmares but odd content at times. Sometimes I literally know I am dreaming and while I am sleeping I am aware that I am not liking the course or content of the dream and will wake myself up and go back to sleep just to change the dream scenery...very very bizzare but it could have something to do with the Valium! I dunno. All I know is that I look forward to going to sleep (escapism ! :) ) and I really really hate having to wake up and start a day of the same ole thing.
whaddya think? any similarites. btw I have been following a fair # of your posts and I too feel very un-alive non-motivated, money is neccessary but I could care less about it apathy, indifference, oh well who cares what IS the point. I know that these are some of the major hallmark symptoms of mood dis-orders but it usually takes quite an event to get me excited! Anhedonia, nihlism....I really really want to feel alive again and get better but Most of the time it seems like its too much effort, fruitless, useless and frustrating!!!!!!!!! Da*m the brain disorders!! On we go . We must keep trying!! :) Take Care
Fondly,
Snapper

Snapper, wow we are alike. That's what my dreams are like. You just went into more detail. So you think it might be the valium? Fondly, Phillipa
