Grrr. Parnate Insomnia

Posted by Maxime on May 18, 2005, at 15:48:03

Sigh. I forgot how Parnate causes insomnia. I don't understand how a med can cause FATIGUE and INSOMNIA. I don't know what to take for it. Maybe my pdoc will let me use 10 mg of Amiptryptaline or Surmontil. Damn. There is always a price to pay for everything.

Maxime,
you can not take last dose later than 1-2pm. I suffered from insomnia if I took 10mg after 5 pm.

You have a good idea,i use 10 mg amitrplyine and a small pieace of a .25 klono and calmly fall asleep better than waiting for that useless (my opinion) lunesta.Amitrpyline goes well with the klono.

25-50mgs Seroquel (nm)

Seroquel and all other anti-psychotics make me lactate.

Yes, I think I will phone my pdoc. I take 4 mg of Klonopin at night. Doesn't do a thing. I have been at that dosage for 10 years. I plan to start coming off it soon.

Yeah, I know and I still haven't started splitting the dosage yet so that is from taking it at 8 am. I am scared to see what it will be like when I do split the dosage. :-)

Maxime,

I SWEAR I wrote you a long thoughtful response to this this afternoon. I guess it didn't make it or I am currently more brain damaged then I think!

Hugs,

I have used the supplement Melotonin to help me fall asleep while on Parnate. I found it was far more effective than any Rx drug, since there is no rebound insomnia.

There is also Hops, Passion flower, etc. All of which I think you shoud try before going to sleep meds. And FWIW, I also take klonopin, and have found that Melotonin is more effective (in getting me to sleep)...You can also try a low dose of diphenhydramine (like childrens benedryl)

I never had any success with Melotonin or valerian root. I guess I could try it again. Thanks for the tip!

Hi
Which kicked in first, the AD effect or the insomnia? Is there not a dose on which you can get the AD effect but not the insomnia?

Well they go hand in hand. I am still not at my therapeutic dose for Parnate. I have 20 more mg to go. I have tried various dosage and I need at least 80 mg. Sometimes I have to go up to 100 mg.

Does melatonin help to KEEP you asleep? i.e. no waking up too early?
