My pdoc thinks I'm possibly in a mixed epsiode, but I think I disagree. When I look at my mood chart I see peak after valley, back and forth. I think I'm rapid cycling.
But I think I have finally stabilized in a depression.
Would this make a differece in how I'm treated? Right now he has me at 100mg of Topamax, 600mg Seroquel and 5mg Abilify.
I there a better med combo for rapid cycling as opposed to mixed episode?

Honestly, IMHO, I would focus more on your symptoms than the total Dx. What do *you* feel right now? Anxiety, depression, dysphoria, aggitation, etc. If you are "stabalized in depression", possibly looking at trying Lamictal, or very, very tiny doses of an antidepressant may be worth a shot...but only you and your doctor can really know.
Best wishes,

Hi:
Rapid cycle and Mixed episode has some similarities in terms of dx. My former pdoc. told me I had 'mixed,' however my current pdoc. put me in the group of 'rapid cycler.'As your Bp getting under control or even in the process of 'getting better,' ... dx sometimes starting to change. In my knowledge, ... 'mixed' is more uncomfortable/severe than 'rapid,' due to depression and mania occurs same time/period. In other words, it might be more 'resistent' to Bp med. tx.
If Bp depression got stabilized, then you must be quite a 'lucky,' as knowining that unlike 'unipolar,' Bp depression is 'hard' to get a proper tx due to its nature, ... SSRIs often brings on 'hypomania,' then have to settle on other class of ADs that are often not as potent as SSRIs.

Depakote or Tegretol/Trileptal usually works the best for rapid cycling. AP's can help too, and you are on two of them already. Maybe the Topamax isn't helping much? Here's a post from the past about possible Topamax induced hypomania:
