300mg Effexor XR not working....what next???

Posted by greatdaneboy on April 18, 2005, at 12:26:34

I have been taking 300 mg of Effexor XR for about six months now with little response. Does anyone have any suggestions about next courses of action? More Effexor or something different? Any comments would be great!!!

Thanks for the info!!!!!!

Do you have lingering depression, anxiety, ADD?
I would probably raise the dose for now. Then augment it with something else if that doesn't work.

I have bipolar disorder and I also take Depakote, Lamictal, Seroquel, and Valium, and these take care of my manic episodes and anxiety very well. It's just the depression that has me right now.

Thanks so much for your reply!!!

Effexor on its own did nothing for me, but it worked well in combination with a low dose of Prozac. Have you ever had a better response to an anti-depressant? That's what made my dr prescribe the Prozac kicker: I'd had good relief from Paxil, another SSRI, but lots of side effects. The combination meant that I could be on lower doses, with fewer side effects, and still get relief.

Hope that helps.

That's a very interesting suggestion! I was taking Prozac before my pdoc switched me to Effexor...but I got up to 80mg and the sexual side effects started to get to me...it was taking me way too long to get to the finish line! Effexor took care of that but I'm not sure that it's really any better than the Prozac. I will suggest adding in some Prozac with my pdoc and see what he says...maybe the combination will help me!

Thanks for your response!!!!!
