One 25 mg Topamax made me really, really sick: nauseated, drugged, crummy like a bad hang over. I had to stay in bed all day the next day. I had been taking 25 mg Nortriptyline for several months, and had taken a Nortriptyline cap about 3 days previously, although I had stopped the Nortriptyline. Could the Nortriptyline in my system have caused a reaction?
Does anyone have experience in working through side effects with Topamax?

I remember it didn't make me feel too good when I started it. You should give the med two weeks at that dosage and see if the side effects lessen. Make sure you drink as much water as possible while taking it.
I hope the side effects get better for you. But don't up yet.

This is day 4 for me on Topamax. According to the PDR it can cause Flu-like symptoms, which may be what you're experiencing. For me, I'm just a bid dizzy and sedated.
Try to hang in there. I'm sure we'll feel better after a little while.
Goodluck,
dm

Thanks, Maxi. I'm going to make sure that the Nortriptyline is out of my system before I try it again.

I took 100 mg a day and felt really dizzy. I was taking it in the morning instead of at night time.

My daughter and I both take it for bipolar II. Yes, we are both bipolar. Two of us in the same house, and living with two males that are the exact opposite of us! I had no problems at all, but she did feel like she had the flu for the first several days. She almost passed out around the third day, and I think it lasted around one or two weeks at the most. Very thirsty at first, be sure to drink, drink, water! It should completely go away for you, and if it doesn't, you should contact your doctor. Good luck. -L

Topamax is working very well for me, along with Zoloft it has made a world of difference, and I am doing just fine. My daughter is doing fine also, but being a teenager, she still has the "drama", and it's harder some days. It does increase my thirst, and gives me some tingling in my feet. That is really the main side effect for me, but it's is causing my daughter to lose hair lately. Not a lot, some people may lost as much on a daily basis, but she's never been one to lose any before. I hope this helps you. Let me know how you are doing.-L
