I'm watching an excellent documentary that I Tivoed last night on the Family Channel. It's called "Healthcasts/ Concerta: A new option for adolescents with ADHD." Basically a pediatric psychiatrist reviewing what is known about Concerta and referncing data from published studies about it's efficacy.
The thing that is excellent is the depth of the discussion - its pitched at a deeper level than the typical articles found in popular literature. The presenter spends a long time unpicking the results of a recent study on adolescents. He discusses
titrating to get the optimal dosage rather than first response.Well worth watching.

sounds interesting,
You have mentioned you take concerta and Dex?Do you find they both have individual benefits?
Compliment each other?
What doses do you find an optimal response with?
thanks

Do you know if taking two 18mg pills would be the same effect as taking one 36mg pill?
I want to go up in dose and have some 18's and want to use them up but didn't know if the release would be the same?
This is my 4th day on 18mg and I really can't tell I'm taking anything, maybe a little but not much. On the show, did they say how long to stay at a certain dose of Concerta before adjusting the dose?
I move fast and sometimes don't give meds a fair chance but from what I understand, stimulants either work immediately or they don't. Is this a fair statement?

Hi!

Yes, taking two would be fine.

Not really, finding the best therapeutic dose/regimen can take time.

Ed.

I have DirecTV and I found ABC Family, channel 311. Is this the correct one?

theo,
I don't know, I deleted it. I had a Tivo wishlist setup to tape anything about ADHD.

>I have to second this. Ritalin had little effect until I got up to 50 mg, and even then I had called my pdoc in despair telling him that the med was having no effect. Soon after, two weeks into the 50 mg dosage, my symptoms suddenly started to improve. There is something of a mythology about stims either having immediate therapeutic effects or being completely ineffectual.
On the other hand, I received an immediate anxioytic effect from my first dose of clonazepam (.25 mg). Perhaps this means that it's harder for me to be stimulated than it is for me to relax.
Strattera actually 'kicked in' faster than Ritalin for me. And one of its 'diadvantages' relative to stims is supposedly its slow onset of action. Strattera had other problems, but slowness of onset was not one of them.
