By SSNRI do you mean a serotonin and Noradrenaline re-uptake inhibitor?

Remeron/Mirtazapine does not inhibit the re-uptake of Noradrenaline and Seratonin, instead it encourages the brain to release them (dont ask how).
It also has other effects including antagonising the type 3 Serotonin receptor.

Its a powerful anti-histamine which makes it good for sleep, although tolerance does tend to build up to its sedative effects, at least in my experiences.

Hope this helps

I was given it along with valium for sleep. I was told at low doses l5mg it helps sleep. I took it for awhile and then got confused by the wt issue, so I stopped it. I still slept the same with just the valium. So, I really don't know whether it helped with sleep or not. Fondly, Phillipa

Yeah, I have heard of several instances where it was prescribed as a sleeping aid. I took 15mg and it made me sleep like a baby, but it's indeed also an AD. Not a reuptake inhibitor though, apparently it's in a class of it's own.

Nick
