Hi there!
Wondering--for those of you that have taken Seroquel, did it lead to weight gain? How much did weight change if it did? Does it seem to be dose-dependent?All comments highly appreciated!!

I gained a little weight(10lb), but I was also kind of going through a drink-a-lot, eat-a-lot, and don't exercise kind of phase. I was on 300mg/day. I do believe that the weight gain generally attributed to Seroquel is definitely dose-dependent; anything under 100mg/day (and even this is a low estimate) won't affect weight. My take is that it does slow you down a bit, so this probably means less of the movements and muscle tension that burns calories all day long in anxious or (hypo)manic people. Some people report that serouqel gives them the munchies, but it doesn't for me. In my opinion, any weight gain actually due to seroquel can be managed by small diet and exercise changes. It would be extremely rare to take seroquel and gain weight like, say, someone with thyroid problems does - but this has happened to a few people.

I think Pm80 is right. It depends on the dose.
Seroquel definitely makes you feel worn out/tired so I could see how it could lead to weight gain if you stop exercising.
I keep losing weight-- one reason my dr. wanted me on Seroquel was to help me gain some weight. But I didn't like it. It gave me a sore throat and made me have restless sleep.
then I woke up feeling hung over the next day.
It did help anxiety but mostly becuase I felt like I was drunk. LOL

Yes I have gained weight on it too...and I've only been on it a week. It seems to really give you the 'munchies'.

> B.YES. Terrible weight gain. I was on a range of 150mg-300mg for insomnia for about 18mo. I gained 100 pounds and it almost left me with diabetes. Then I did some research and foun that Seroquel has the potential to make users more likely to develop diabetes. So I told my doc no more. Now I'm on Lunesta and it works great. Plus I'm losing weight -25 pounds thus far.

Wow that's Great! My pharmacist just looked up lunesta in the computer for me and said it comes in a l,2,3mg tabs. Then he said Wow! it's expensive. One lmg tab is $3.37. He hasn't had any requests for it yet and believes more info is needed first. It's good to hear you are having success with it. Did you get any samples, or do you just have a good insurance plan? Fondly, Phillipa
