OK, this has been bugging me for a while: does anyone know what serotonin does in the GI tract? Whatever it is, could it be involved in the weight gain from all these damned drugs? Anyone?
Thanks!

There was a thread on this subject a while ago...I think the consensus was that while there are serotogenic receptors in the gut, they are not likely to be the cause of weight gain. The mechanism is more likely to be on overall metabolic regulation occurring in the brain.
It is most likely to be complex, because some SSRIs cause weight gain, whereas others don't typically and in fact can lead to appetite loss and anorexia.
Just MHO.
This is the end of the thread.
