I am wondering--do other people find that Lexapro poops out pretty quickly? It seems to be the case for me, and I remember at least one or two other posters say that.

I think any SSRI drug has the potential to poop-out. You can:
1. Increase the dosage
2. Give it more time. Antidepressant responses can be episodic and not smooth in the beginning.
3. Switch to a different drug.
4. Add another drug as an adjunct. Wellbutrin or Remeron would be good choices. Even low-dose lithium.

Thanks Scott! I am actually not on Lexapro now; when I was and upped it, I got aggressive thoughts, very upsetting.
I was just wondering if it pooped out faster than say zoloft or prozac, each of which worked for quite a while before pooping out. But lexapro worked for 2 months, then nothing.I am never going to take an SSRI alone again, only in combo with other meds.
I am hoping to try luvox, to give just a little serotonin boost to my regimen that boosts norepinaphrine and dopamine (adderall desipramine, and just a smidgen of Abilify for anxiety). I am phasing out Lamictal..

Hi Banga.

Sounds like a plan!
Good luck. I'm sure your patience will pay off.
Let me know what happens. I might give your recipe a try.

This is the current full recipe if you didnt see it in an earlier post:
75 mg desipramine
2.5 mg Abilify
30mg Adderall
200mg LamictalNote that the amounts of desipramine and abilify are small; but I am pretty small--114 lbs-- and these drugs all potentiate each other--so who knows what the actual blood levels are. I figure Abilify is at least double, given its long half-life; probably should have the desipramine measured.
Depression is quite under control, and energy and motivation are quite good. anxiety is tolerable but not managed. I could function better with less--difficulty still with being avoidant and overwhelmed by little stuff. hence the luvox. And I doubt the Lamictal is doing anything, I am trying to wean off slowly.
At least I am getting up in the morning and not hiding in bed.

I found that I needed a minimum of 5.0mg a day of Abilify to help with motivation and ward off anxiety states.Wishing you all the best...

How much Luvox are you planning on adding. And also to all of you, why do the AD's poop out? Fondly, Phillipa

I am not sure how much Luvox, a low dose initially--50, maybe 100mg. I'll see if my pdoc has thoughts--I am not even sure he'll agree, but most likely will--
he is known by pdocs around here as "eccentric," "liberal"----i.e., he'll try anything. It's funny to see pdocs trying to pick their words carefully when trying to describe him--you understand immediately that they think his practices are more than "eccentric". But I also hear of other patients that love him. I like him.
I have to be careful and have an idea whether what I want makes sense before I go in to see him--it's a bit up to me to suggest a plan. He knows his stuff, he just doesn't balk to try something new, and try all kinds of combos. If he suggested a med that I didn't know much about I'd probably tell him "I'll think about it" and go research it myself first.

I would suggest that you ask him if he feels that 50mg at bedtime would be a reasonable dose to start at. Then ask, if I tolerate that could I go up to l00mg and split the dose between am and pm. That's how I was started in the hospital when the drug first came out. Good luck, I really thought it worked well. I just hope my new pdoc will let me try the same. Fondly, Phillipa

I can't remember, but at the time I wasn't that depressed. Just relieved that I didn't have to go back to work. Now I wish I had. Fondly, Phillipa
