Hi,
I would often go to this sight for advice but did not register until now. Anyway I know some of you posters are extremly experienced. Any of you ever take Limbitrol a combo of elavil and librium introduced in 1967. Thanks JN

They were giving it to me for panic+mixed episode, to get me stable until the doxepin took over on its own (for the panic) and the lithium kicked in (for the bipolar). The limbitrol was a good med, I slept great (along with the other meds helping). When I presented at the pdoc's office I was sleeping about 2 hours a night and was in an air-raid full panic mode anxiety trip, depressed and talking a hundred miles an hour.

Hey Ritch,
Interesting. I guess what your saying is that is was fine for about 2 weeks and then a negative response? I am not sure. I heard you are an expert on AED's, give me your opinion on the usual suspects if you get a chance. Thanks JN

I understand your post now. 4 questions:
1. Why did you decide to eliminate limbitrol
2. What's your favorite AED
3. Would you consider a librium-remeron combination similar to limbitrol
4. I know it's personal but what's you're diagnosis and what do you take now. Thanks JN

2) I don't really have any favorite as such. They all have their unique advantages and disadvantages depending on the symptoms. I haven't tried them all either (i.e. lamotrigine). Of the ones that I've tried they all possessed some utility of sorts. Keppra was good for sleep, as was Topamax. Depakote or Trileptal has been the strongest ones for irritability and cycling. Neurontin the best for GAD. Clonazepam the best for panic. I was underwhelmed with Gabitril.
3) Remeron was compared with amitriptyline when it came out. I've taken both. I liked the amitrip. a little better (daytime sedation faded away and much less hunger). I'd say they are fairly similiar in many ways.
4) I'm BPII or atypical BP depending on which pdoc I've seen. I'm on Depakote 375mg, clonazepam .5-1.0mg, a tiny bit of Celexa every other day.

Hey Ritch,
Thanks for the info. Your regimen and mine are very similar. Interesting on the remeron/elavil comparison. Thanks again. JN
