Yes, it will be released first quarter of this year, probably at the end of this month or next month.

I'm waiting for this drug also. Is it the same as ambien? I know it's supposed to have anti-depressant actions as well, and have a longer half-life than ambien. Phillipa

Yeah from what i understand its as effective as ambien but tweaked a little........supposedly there is less chance of tolerance to where it wont work, and its main benifit is its supposed to work though the entire night,no waking up mid morning. Also i have come across an article or two stating its benificial in overall depression, but then it doesent take a rocket scientist to know if we all got good sleep every night, consistently, and could count on it,it would help,i can take a shot in the dark and bet the overwhelming majority of the group has some type of sleep trouble, there is an obvious connetction there.
Im gonna hold off and wait, urself?

You will also be able to keep taking it on and on with no problems. Non-addicting.

Willyee is absolutely right, I'm sure there is a big connection between sleep problems and mood problems.
I wonder when it will be released in the UK, if ever........

Hi,
We've got zopiclone (Zimovane) so I don't think we really need Lunesta!

Hi,
The drug zopiclone (Zimovane) consists of 2 chemicals: eszopiclone and R-zopiclone. R-zopiclone appears to have very little pharmacological activity. Eszopiclone is now sold on it's own as Lunesta. Zopiclone (Zimovane) consists of 50% eszopiclone ie. a 7.5 mg tablet of Zimovane contains 3.75mg of eszopiclone.
Zopiclone has been available in the UK for many years. Although zopiclone is licensed for short-term use only, it is sometimes prescribed for long periods of time because it does appear to be effective in the long term - at least in some patients.
Zopiclone seems to be less likely to be associated with tolerance or dependence than the benzodiazepines. Dependence on zopiclone is still possible though. Some people do abuse zopiclone and consequently become addicted. Inevitably, both abuse, 'addiction' and physical dependence will also occur with Lunesta. It is my belief that the long-term use of Lunesta or Zimovane may be slightly *more* likely to result in physical dependence than the long-term use of zolpidem (Ambien, Stilnoct). A recent study reported that in the treatment of chronic insomnia 'zolpidem (Ambien) was at least as effective as zopiclone (Zimovane), showed significantly less rebound on discontinuation and was better tolerated.' Zopiclone (Zimovane) and eszopiclone (Lunesta) are less selective for the omega1 subunit of the benzodiazepine receptor than zolpidem (Ambien) - this may account for the apparantly greater risk of withdrawal symptoms with zopiclone. Lunesta has no proven advantages over Zimovane - both drugs can be useful hypnotics.

There definitely seems to be a connection for some people but not all. Some people with depression tend to sleep too much, not too little. I trained myself not to use sleep as an escape from depression and so stopped sleeping too much. But I didn't deny myself a full night's sleep. Nonetheless, I still got depressed. Being short of sleep had nothing to do with my depression.
This is the end of the thread.
