Anyone get hypomanic on Lamictal?

Posted by smith562 on February 3, 2005, at 18:19:17

Hey Everyone,

Lamictal definately gives me energy and motivation. But I am wondering if I am starting to stray into hypomania (sleeping alittle less ... I use this as my goal standard to judge hypomania). How many of you guys have experience hypomania with lamictal?

Thank you in advance!

Sincerely,

Smith

I was only on it a couple of months and I mostly felt real good, but there were a few times when I thought "Am I a tad hypomanic right now?" Nothing serious, just a feeling. I had to get off it (rash) so it's a moot point now.

yes! hypomanic episodes, one after another. lithium is my usual mood stabilizer, but for medical reasons, i was off of it. i was sick and low on energy, so the hypomanic episodes would burn out quickly, within a couple of days, but i became rapid cycling when i never had before. a couple of the hypomanic episodes were more mixed rather than my usual high-flying fun. i was more irritable and wanted to sleep but couldn't as opposed to not needing sleep. is this like you?

I tried keep the dose low to avoid hypomania ... about 25 to 50 mgs with lithium 450 mgs. But still mild racing thoughts, more sexual, spending alittle more. It is such a delicate balance!

I have noticed that after the first 3 weeks, now I am more irritable and sleeply. I try to take afternoon naps, but can't sleep.

But without it, I am a wet noodle .... no motivation. Ah, what to do .....

Hope you are well. Sincerely, Smith

I tried Lamictal for about six weeks and to say I was rapid cycling would be a gross understatement. Not sure if it was due to the Lamictal or from coming off the Effexor but it was a really rough time (still dealing with it). Too bad too because for the first time in ages I started having energy and motivation again. It just didn't stablize me at all.

i startd rapid cycling, too, and i've also been very stable bipolar-- not rapid cycling, just long weeks or monnths of a high or a low. otherwise, lamictal is great for me! i still take it even though i've started lithium again.
