Seroquel/Zyprexa taper -- need help ASAP

Posted by ace on January 29, 2005, at 20:50:32

Hi guys,\

i was on zyprexa for 10 months.

i decided to give seroquel a chance cause of lack of weight gain.

anyhow, the first week i started at 50mg seroquel daily and 2.5 zyprexa every second day.

2nd week 100mg seroquel daily and 2.5 zyprexa every 3rd day.

the problem now is that i feel a strong depression setting in....

i really can't go through another depressive period, i am sick of them.

what is causing this and is there any remedy?

i am tempted to take them both, but my doc doesn't approve.

should i just go back to the zyprexa with the weight gain? i was stable on it along with my other meds -- doing really well except weight gain.

all opinions needed!

Hi,

This might not work for you, but this is what I did:

I was on 15 mg Zyprexa for 7 months. I had to stop it after developing Metabolic Syndrome. On my pdoc's advice, I stopped it cold turkey. I imediately replaced it with 300 mg of Seroquel. I have had no withdrawal symptoms and I actually feel a little bit better emotionally.

So, my point is, if you increase your Seroquel, it may help.

I know someone who is experiencing a robust antidepressant effect from adding Seroquel to Wellbutrin. It really didn't manifest fully until after a dosage of 400mg was reached.

At 2.5mg, my guess is that you can just drop the Zyprexa. Seroquel tends to be more soporific at low dosages than at high dosages, so don't use this effect as a guage of what the drug will ultimately feel like.
