I have asked this question before a long time ago but I did not understand the answer. If anyone can answer this question and you use the names of neurotransmitters etc. please explain what they are. I am a doctor of Philosophy. So while I can talk forever about hegemony, my knowledge of chemistry is slowly growing.
Why would Parnate make me so exhausted? I use the would exhausted because it's not the same feeling as being tired or sedated like when I take a benedryl for example. It's a I have to lie down now and rest for 20 minutes or I will fall over. So I take Adderall to counteract it and it does help. It also helps my depression. Despite being on a high dosage of Parnate (80-100mg depending on the lunar cycle because I am bipolar), I am always depressed but nothing like when I am not taking Parnate. I can feel the Parnate make my heart race at times and sometimes I get a headache.
What would cause this effect. How can a med be stimulating in some ways yet cause exhaustion at the same time?
Thank you.

> MaximeOne possibility is that the Parnate is lowering your blood pressure, perhaps similar to what I experienced on Nardil; although, I think the majority of my problem on Nardil was due to it also lowering my heart rate. Adding a stimulant like Adderall to an MAOI will tend to increase blood pressure and heart rate. I would highly suggest monitoring your BP to see if you can get a better idea of what is going on. The headache you mention may also be an indication that your blood pressure is spiking upwards at times, which is probably not a real good thing, if that is actually what is happening.

Hello,
I'm not chemist but.....
>I use the would exhausted because it's not the same feeling as being tired or sedated like when I take a benedryl for example. It's a I have to lie down now and rest for 20 minutes or I will fall over.
>I can feel the Parnate make my heart race at times...Have you had your blood pressure checked while sitting and then while standing?
You may be experiencing the symptoms of low blood pressure (hypotension). Hypotension is a common side effect of Parnate, especially postural/orthostatic hypotension.

Hi, since chemist unfortunately can't respond (a fact that grieves not only you) I can say that a lot of Ritalin produces a weird feeling, almost like I'm about to fall over. I reduced nortriptyline (another sympathomimetic) and have experienced partial relief. My symptoms were consistent with low BP (orthostatic hypotension, dizziness, most troublingly, seeing 'stars' after exertion) but my BP was normal, at least when tested.

My blood pressure is on the low side of normal. I have gotten used to getting up slowly.
I'm never going to feel normal or right.
