Hiya
I am on 15mg of Remeron, and yes it has increased my appetite a lot. However my doc is thinking of increasing my dose to 30mg.
Is this likely to increase or decrease the hunger? What about sleeping, will it make me more or less tired?
Cheers! Kate

I don't know about increased HUNGER per se, but I took Remeron at the beginning of 2004 for sleep. It worked great for that, but I gained 12 pounds in two weeks, so had to get off it.
What I DID notice was that everything I ate tasted SOOOOOOOO good.
Did that help?

If Remeron is working well for you as an antidepressant then I would say, continue.. it can be a fairly effective antidepressant with somewhat different properties from the SSRIs.
But from someone with an unmentionable weight gain (since have come off the Remeron, it was taken for a somewhat complicated off label reason) I say, put time delayed padlocks on the refrigerator! No, I'm not trying to discourage you from the medication but weight is a significant issue with it, just have to watch the portion intake and say "enough" at a given point.

Hi prettypaints,
I'm on Remeron too and increased my dose from 15 to 30 mg about two weeks ago. When I was on 15mg my appetite did increase quite a bit but it's gone back to normal since I've been on 30 (well, maybe a bit more than normal, but nothing too worrying). I did put on a bit of weight on 15mg, but this has stopped now and I even seem to be losing it again now. I definitely prefer being on a higher dose.
As for the sleep, I'm still sleeping a lot - the increase in dose hasn't made any difference :(
Hope this helps.

Hi Kate,
My experience was the same as Elizabeth's. When I was taking 7.5mg Remeron, my appetite increased a lot, and I had a lot of daytime sedation . But as my dose increased, my appetite decreased, and the daytime sleepiness went away altogether. JRBecker has some great old posts on Remeron; I have copied the URL's from one thread below. In one of his posts JRBecker gives his experience with each dose level, and his experience is exactly the same as mine. Here is what he says:
"7.5mg: good for sleep, no problem with sedation at all.
15mg: good for sleep, mild sedation throughout the day. very little AD effect.
30mg: great for sleep, mild to moderate sedation. Good AD effect. Good for anxiety
45mg: mild sedation. Great AD effect. "Of course, I am also taking 5mg Selegiline +DLPA, and I sometimes take Adderall as well, and all of these decrease appetite and are activiating. So it is always a case of YMMV. But Remeron does have some real advantages. It kicks in quickly, and it reduces anxiety as well has helping with depression.
Good luck, and let us know how you do,
Ktemene
