ECT for manic depression?

Is ECT a viable alternative to meds for manic depression? Or is it purely for major depression? My research shows it is quite safe during pregnancy but what are others' views on that?

Yes ECT works as well for Bipolar disorder as it does for unipolar and Schitsophrenia.
